Guest Blog – Epic & Unique Dishes to try at Chatswood Interchange – Part 2 by @2HungryGuys

When it comes to unique, weird and wacky, tea may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it’s not your typical English Breakfast and Green tea you’ll find here at King Tea , where the most adventurous thing you’ll add is some milk or honey… nope, we’re talking the likes of cheese foam, purple rice and pearl crystals!

Don’t forget the egg waffles, which (spoiler alert) don’t actually feature any egg… Intrigued? Read on!

Anyone who’s been to King Tea can recognise the signature beverage from a mile away. An amber – coloured, freshly brewed loose – leaf tea under a swathe of creamy, cheese – flavoured milk foam – from afar it almost looks like a beer in a plastic cup with a very impressive head of foam! Meet the “cheese foam tea”; now, we hear your disbelief, cheese… on top of tea? It may sound strange but trust us on this one! The velvety, slightly savoury foam provides a pleasant contrast in both taste and texture to the refreshing tea underneath.

For those looking to take a slightly less adventurous route (don’t worry we won’t tell), there’s also a range of fresh fruit teas and yoghurt smoothies, although we do feel like we need to mention that the latter features blended purple rice as a mix -in, no less (this is a blog about epic and unique dishes, isn’t it?). While purple rice may seem like a curious addition to a drink, the result is a deliciously thick and tangy yoghurt shake. (Here’s a fun fact for you – purple rice is also known as black or “forbidden” rice, as legend has it that purple rice was originally reserved exclusively for China’s ancient emperors, possibly due to its appearance or rarity!)

Not a tea kinda person? No worries! You’re sure to get your sweet fix from the egg waffles – which, spoiler alert, don’t contain eggs (as a filling, at least – we’re quite sure it’s in the batter)! Also known as eggettes or egg puffs, these are a delicious street snack in different parts of Asia and are named for the shape. Not dissimilar to the waffles we’re accustomed with, these ones are golden and crisp on the outside, and best eaten by breaking off the little pockets for a delightful mouthful of light and fluffy waffle inside. A great accompaniment to the tea, we went for both the original and the matcha flavour.

It’s safe to say we were very satisfied, indeed. Chatswood Interchange is an absolute smorgasbord of food offerings – with plenty of places to try out and many unique dishes on all menus, your epic dish list will be nothing far from short. Best head over there now, to start eating your way through it!
