GUEST BLOG – Asian Street Food Exchange by @sweetandyummie

Are you hungry and want to satisfy your hunger pains with something substantial, yet still in the street food category of awesomeness? One thing I love about street food is the history and story behind each dish. I headed to Chatswood Interchange, the epicentre of Sydney’s eclectic Asian Street Food Eats, to uncover the stories behind two traditional favourites (both with a distinctly Australian, or new age twist):

● 1Ton Noodle

p1/436 Victoria Ave, Chatswood NSW 2067

Order the Barramundi Claypot Rice Claypot rice is known to have originated from the Guangdong province in China, where it istraditionally prepared atop a charcoal stove with a distinctive smoky charred flavour, served piping hot with crunchy burnt rice at the bottom of the claypot. It can come in many different varieties but the most traditional is chicken and Chinese sausage. At 1Ton they have a Barramundi Claypot Rice that is comforting and will get your juices flowing with happiness!

Cooked in one pot, the barramundiis soft and delicately drizzled with aromatics and a flavourful soy sauce that soaks deep into the rice alongside some leafy greens. Remember to mix it all up for a bowl of extreme tastiness. It’s a decent size so share with a friend! Don’t wait any further-go get this dish now.

● Chicken V

Order the Sprinkle Cheese Chicken Korean fried chicken is known for its addictively crunchy texture and meat that is juicy and tender, and if you like anything remotely related to Fried Chicken then this is the place to be. Interestingly, the concept of frying chicken in Korea had its beginning during the Korean War. American troops stationed in South Korea from the late-1940s began setting up stalls selling American style fried chicken for those missing that soul-comforting taste of home. At Chicken V, there is a good range of flavours to choose from but my recommendation is the Sprinkle Cheese Chicken that comes with a Creamy Cheese Yoghurt dipping sauce and the Sprinkle Cheese Powder that is unlike anything you have tried before! The chicken here is undeniably juicy and you surely cannot go wrong ordering everything else on the menu.I’m sure you’ll agree everything tastes better with a good story behind the dish, so make sure you head over to Chatswood Interchange to enjoy a plethora of dishes cooked from authentic recipes(often with a twist) that have been served for generations past. There’s something quite special about that.
